We design and run a range of workshops to assist participants with a variety of learning needs. For us “learning” has a wide definition, encompassing a range of activities that obviously includes studying in an academic environment. Importantly, it also covers the many situations in which we are faced with doing something new, or adapting to a new situation, and, importantly, obtaining that first or fresh employment.
Our workshops can be tailored to specific learning issues and can be adapted to suit substantial or small groups of participants. But they do have a core theme – transferable skills.
Transferable skills are those which, although often hard to measure, help us deal with all aspects of our lives - working with other people, solving problems, getting things done on time.
We believe these skills are important in helping you to learn more effectively and act as a solid foundation for whatever you want to do after study.
This is not an exhaustive list, but here are a few examples of what we can cover, and how they might apply to you:
- Influencing
When you are writing an essay, have you ever thought about the key factors that you need to take into account, which might positively influence the reader? A clear structure? Logical lines of argument? Spelling and grammar? To name but a few!
In a work situation, what strategies do you/will you use to influence your boss? How do you present an argument to get the results you want? How do you work through other people to influence someone important?
- Creative Problem Solving
When you are preparing a piece of written work, whether at college or at work, what’s your strength? Do you have loads of ideas, but find it hard to structure the work coherently? Do you start with a logical flow, but struggle to keep sight of a fresh perspective as you progress?
Whether your strength is creativity, or being analytical, what techniques can you use to develop the other side and to achieve a balance?
- Time Management
Most of us lead busy lives, juggling work, study, family and social pressures. So, how do you manage it all?
Do you feel as if everything is done at the last minute? Do you put off the ‘big ticket’ items in favour of those ‘work avoidance’ moments (sending emails, immersing yourself in domestic tasks, and so on)? Are you forgetting to focus on the really important things in your life (e.g. your health, your leisure, your family)?
- Team-working
Studying is often perceived to be a lonely exercise. You have to focus on your ideas, your essay deadlines, your research themes.
But, most study programmes, and most jobs, put you in a situation where you have to work with, or relate to others. How do YOU work in a group situation? How can you work better with people who have a different approach to you?
How can you make the most of your learning situation, or your current job, to develop your team-working skills?
If you think any of these skills might be helpful or relevant to you, or if you think there are other skills you’d like to work on, contact us here at Estudia.
Whether you are:
- An administrator, lecturer or teacher or, in any way part of academe - you are invited to talk to us about how workshops might enhance the performance and enjoyment of your class or group.
- An individual student, potential student, or even an ambitious employee - who might gain from taking part in a workshop exercise.
If interested or even enthused by this idea you could inform your tutor, administrator or college and ask them to consider the possibility of arranging a workshop, or, at least, talking it over with us.
On our Coaching page is some information on the assistance we can give in individual situations and one-to-one needs.
But we can also support situations that fall between the officially booked workshop and personal coaching. If you think that there may be something of value in our approach that might benefit a small group of your fellow students or colleagues, ask them to check out this site.
It might be worth your while getting together and having a spokesperson talk to us about organising a focused, special and probably short (a few hours?) kind of event for your group. Think about it. We aim to very flexible.
